TB Test Certificate Required for Entry into Japan: Nationals of the Philippines and Nepal
[Important] TB Test Certificate Required for Entry into Japan: Nationals of the Philippines and Nepal
As part of enhanced border control measures, the Immigration Services Agency of Japan now requires nationals of the Philippines and Nepal to submit a valid tuberculosis (TB) test certificate when applying for COE, mid- to long-term visas, to enter Japan.
This applies to all applicants seeking residence statuses such as:
- Student
- Technical Intern Training
- Specified Skilled Worker
- Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services
- Business Manager
- Dependent
The certificate must be obtained from a designated medical institution approved by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country. It must clearly state that the applicant is free from active TB infection, confirmed by chest X-ray or other appropriate medical testing.
Vietnam Will Be Added to the List Soon
Japan is expected to expand this requirement to include Vietnamese nationals in the near future. Employers and educational institutions planning to accept applicants from Vietnam are advised to prepare in advance and monitor announcements from Japanese embassies.
Important Notes
- The TB certificate must be issued within 3 months prior to visa application.
- Certificates must be in English or Japanese.
- Applicants from visa-exempt countries coming for short-term stays (e.g., 90 days or less) are not subject to this requirement.
